Thomas K Longstreet (Tom), 63, passed away on February 10, 2012 in Middleton, Idaho due to a heart attack. Tom was born in December, 1948 in Santa Barbara, CA to James Longstreet and Thelma Longstreet-Garrett. Tom graduated high school from Middleton High in 1967, and continued his education at College of Idaho and Bob Jones University. He married his wife of 41 years, Pennie Longstreet in 1970.
Tom and Pennie moved around a bit after they were married working at church farms for troubled youth. Next, they moved to northern Alberta in 1976 and resided there for over 10 years. While there, Tom worked at Dome Petroleum while earning his second Class Stationary Engineering license. Tom and his family moved from Canada to Oklahoma for three years while he pursued a Pastoral studies degree at Rhema Bible School. Shortly after graduating they decided to return to the Treasure Valley to be closer to their family and friends. Here in Idaho, Tom worked at Zilog for years prior to joining his brother in real estate.
As a realtor for over 20 years he touched the lives of hundreds of people in all walks of life. He loved to talk to people and enjoyed helping them reach for their dreams. However, his first love was always his family and Christian mission – over the years he sponsored many children to bible camps, and labored greatly to make sure his children grew up to have a relationship of loving obedience with God. Tom was an extremely active member and supporter of Eagle Christian Church. He loved to share his faith, and over the last few years he traveled several times to China to provide aid and support for local churches. He learned to love the Chinese people and he hoped to continue helping support the work of God in China. He was never shy about giving someone a helping hand, often to the limits of his finances, and he spent many hours talking to people he met about his love for God.
He enjoyed outdoor recreational activities such as: camping, hunting, hiking, fishing, rafting, horseback riding, target shooting with children & grandchildren, and visiting hot springs. He was also an avid pinochle player and loved to play with his family and friends.
Tom is survived by his wife Pennie Longstreet, his six children Ken, Nathaniel, John, Phil, Crystal, and Amber, his mother Thelma Longstreet-Garrett, brother Garret Longstreet, sister Cindy Swartz, step-siblings John, Eleanor, Jack, and Marilyn and ten grandchildren Robby, Chantel, Nate, Luke, Zoe, Ian, Melody, Christian, Katrina and Jayden. He is preceded in death by his father James Longstreet, step-father Alva Garrett and grand-daughter Kortney Longstreet.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 17, 2012, 6:00 PM at Eagle Christian Church. There will be a reception following the memorial service - everyone is invited to attend – a meal will be provided.
